Yesterday I had my admissions interview for the evening MBA program at the Crummer School of Business, Rollins College.
For the past year or so I have been attending executive speaking events hosted by the Center for Entrepreneurship at Rollins.
In addition, I gave a presentation there about my experiences in entrepreneurship to the CEO club just a few weeks ago at the end of March.
The reason I am attracted to Rollins is because they have responded to the changing demands of prospective MBA students, and geared their program for a career in entrepreneurship...rather than a career with a large corporation.
And, many of their alumni are very successful entrepreneurs serving the Central Florida community and beyond.
I have long debated with myself whether or not an MBA is the best move for me at this point in my entrepreneurial career.
Now, I have decided that it is.
Here's why...
I have had the privilege of working closely with three very high level entrepreneurs over the past four years...that...has allowed me to leap frog ahead in knowledge and experience.
Two of these individuals have graduate level business degrees and one does not.
The two that do have graduate level degrees appear significantly savvier when it comes to finance, marketing, and operations.
In addition, the two seem to have a much bigger picture view and understand enterprises of scale much better.
Furthermore, the two have accumulated substantially more wealth.
All of these factors accumulate to make me believe that an MBA will refine my existing self-taught skills and knowledge, plus add to them in an advantageous way.
For a while I thought I was convinced that an MBA was not right for me...
Many messages from respected sources have come to me crying that an MBA is worthless; it's just not practical.
However, I have never been one to follow the crowd or the biased advice of others and doing so has served me well to this point.
So, it is my intention come fall to begin my entrepreneurial MBA at Rollins College here in Central Florida.
If you'd like to participate in the raging MBA debate...please submit your comments.
Here’s to reveling with you in entrepreneurial success!
Sincerely,
Adam C. Dudley
