Dear Evolving Entrepreneur,
If you’re just starting out in business or…maybe…have a few years experience under your entrepreneurial belt, then you should read this entire post without interruption, all the way through.
In late 2002, at the age of 23, I was just starting my first business as a fledgling entrepreneur and I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing…
All I knew was that I wanted to be successful and at the time, to me, success meant getting really, really RICH!
However, there was just one problem…A BIG problem…
Having recently completed an undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Exercise & Sport Sciences…
You see, this meant I had a long, hard road ahead of me that was fraught with lessons from the University of Hard Knocks...Not the road I recommend for the weak or faint of heart.
My first business was a personal training company where I took the training into people's homes. It was a great "learning experience" but, unfortunately, it left me burnt out and bitter by the end of the first year.
Too much, too soon, for this evolving entrepreneur!
Dana is a wealthy individual that I had dealings with via my personal training business and he chose me to be his student in business and in life…He became my first mentor.
I worked with Dana on a project to purchase an exclusive US license to import and sell a projection screen technology from Holland.
Just a few months into the project I had already taken over start-up operations because Dana’s father had taken ill. I was forced to learn as I went, adapting and absorbing knowledge like a human sponge.
I made three exciting business trips to Amsterdam within a period of about three months!
By the end of the last trip to Amsterdam, we had clearly determined the Dutch company to be a fraud and called it quits on the deal.Did I look at that as failure? No way! It was one of the most valuable learning experiences of my life...a practical internship in international business sent from heaven! Then I met the Master!
Knowledge such as raw entrepreneurial insights from a master and the chance to sit in on hundred million-dollar projects, like the export of $300 Million worth of railroad scrap from the Congo in Africa to be shipped to blast furnaces in China for melting down into raw steel!
Then there were restaurants in Poland, nightclubs in Amsterdam and England, land deals in Mexico, and airplanes in the Philippines! After working with Timothy for over one year I gained valuable insight and knowledge in all areas of business and entrepreneurship and, through my participation, gained priceless hands-on experience. That can't be taught in a classroom!
It was like being on The Apprentice only without Donald Trump saying, "You're fired!"
Unfortunately what I didn’t gain was profit because none of the ventures I so diligently worked on came to fruition. But, all in good time and now, lessons learned, I don’t rely on anyone except myself to shape my life.
The following bullet points summarize my exposure to various industries and businesses:
- Import/export of technology and raw materials
- Land acquisition and development
- Hotel, restaurant and nightclub development
- Digital advertising media
- Online gaming
- Currency trading
- Financing
- And, I have also explored countless other opportunities in various industries and is someone who knows a small to moderate amount about many things regarding business.
I’ve also had the good fortune to gain the mentorship of several other master entrepreneurs since these experiences.
As I interacted with other young and evolving entrepreneurs, I began to recognize how unique my experience really was and how many years I have saved by learning what I learned from masters in business and entrepreneurship – my multi-millionaire mentors.
There is no substitute for having a mentor guide any fledgling entrepreneur with no business background or experience through the perilous pitfalls and obstacles that lay in wait.
With that in mind, I've discovered that it is my purpose and pleasure to share all of this remarkable knowledge with people just like you through my blog you’re reading right now, my emails, print newsletter, teleseminars, and forthcoming products.
